As usual I'm way behind. We took the kids to see Santa the first Saturday of December. They were all very excited to tell him what they wanted.
Last Saturday we took a day trip and visited some museums. We drove to Price (a little over an hour away) to see their dinosaur museum. It also had stuff about the Indians that used to live here in Utah. This is a mastodon...not a dinosaur. :)
This is the Utahraptor, which is basically a larger velociraptor. Kevin listened to the recording about it and apparently the velociraptor from Jurassic Park was a large velociraptor that didn't really exist until after the movie came out when they discovered the Utahraptor.
Owen enjoying the view.
I think that one was an allosaurus. I don't remember the one laying down.
We also drove down to Castle Dale...another half hour south to a small museum there, but it wasn't very impressive. On the way home we stopped in Helper at their city museum. It was in the middle of being remodeled, so it was quite a mess and missing a bunch of things. These are from the 1920s. Anyone want a perm?
Old mailboxes...we liked these because we just saw an episode of American Pickers and one of the guys on the show really likes these old mailboxes. Other than the boxes though, the room was basically empty.
On the drive home we saw some people ice climbing and thought we'd stop to watch and see how the did it. It was a terrible location in the canyon. It was really windy and super cold. I don't think it looked like fun at all. The guy at the bottom was nice enough to explain everything to us and he even let the kids play with his ice pick things they use to climb the ice. We didn't stay that long because the wind was terrible. All around though, we had a really fun day with the kids getting to see some fun stuff at the tiny museums around Utah.
